Prototyping and 3D printing
It is your job to design a 3D model of something! We are going to have two challenges - a quick challenge due on Wednesday and then a number of challenges you can compete in for Friday.
We are going to use TinkerCAD to do our design work - the first step is to create an account and go through the tutorials to learn the controls. After playing around for a little bit it will get pretty easy to use! Once you have logged in you should be able to get to the lessons like below:
This Weeks Challenge Has Two Parts
It's a two-parter this week! Check out the Mini Challenge due Wednesday and the Full Challenge for Friday!
We have been printing these "ear savers" for hospital workers and others to make masks more comfortable to wear. Submit your design by Wednesday at noon - they will be printed and tested here by nurses. Here are links to some designs to get you thinking about it:
Some tips from us: thickness of the ear saver should stay thin (0.8mm or less) or it will not be flexible enough, and smooth surfaces are easier to clean. The best design will win a prize!
Make anything you want as long as it is original. You can be eligible for a prize in any of the following categories:
Best Bird/Animal Feeder Design
Best design that helps the fight with COVID-19
Fixed it for you: Design a part to fix something broken in your house
Most Creative / Artistic
Best Product / Ready for Market
Best multi-part design (must have 2 or more pieces that get put or used together in some way)
Best design that has some type of movement (gears, captured pieces)
Your design will be judged in at most two categories, so keep that in mind when generating ideas!
Now Sign up for TinkerCAD and let's get started!
Before we go any further: We will support you through demos, question and answer times, and by email. For video calls, demos, walk throughs, and question/answer sessions we will be using Zoom (https://zoom.us/). Before each event we will email out the information you need to connect.
